Eclectic Kitchen

My clients wanted something which was fun fresh and colourful with a slight retro feel. Being a young professional couple in their 20’s with little twin baby boys they didn’t want anything too serious and bland but more of something which reflected their personalities and lifestyle.

I tried to mix the colours and materials in a way which is unpredictable to show some excitement and personality. Mixing small blue glass mosaics on the back of the island and teaming this up with hexagonal chocolate mosaics on the splashback was one way to create this unpredictability in the design. The cylindrical hood stands out as an unconventional piece which is a flow on with the common theme of being strikingly different. Last but not least the funky retro Dandelion clocks wallpaper which was the starting point to the kitchen design and this becomes almost a backdrop piece of artwork to the space.

The benchtops are made out of quartz in Polished Taupe. This product is extremely hardy and non porous so perfect for a young family situation. The chocolate colour is matched perfectly with the background of the floral wallpaper. Tongue and groove panelling combined with silver cup handles give a slightly retro feel to the door panels. Shaped curved timber shelves were designed to fit on the wallpaper to show off my clients much loved crockery and display items. I have tried to incorporate a mixture of several finishes and colours into this space. I really wanted the space to have an eclectic quirky look and therefore chose unpredictable products.
